About
About TipLivo
TipLivo is a small, independent project. A tip calculator is the whole of what we do here: it works out the tip, the total and each person's share, with quick percentages, a pre- or post-tax switch, bill splitting and rounding. There is no account to create, no email to hand over, and no paywall hiding behind the third advert.
Why we built this
The reason TipLivo exists is simple: a tool that does one thing should not need an account, a cookie wall and three scrolls of marketing copy before it shows a number. So this one does one thing — works out the tip, the total and each person's share, with quick percentages, a pre- or post-tax switch, bill splitting and rounding — and shows it immediately.
How it works
The whole calculation is client-side JavaScript. What happens is this: it applies the percentage to the bill, optionally before or after tax, then divides the total by the number of people and can round to whole units, so the numbers a group actually pays add up to the bill. Because the method is published here, any disagreement you find can be traced to a particular step instead of being blamed on a black box.
What happens to your input
This is a local tool by construction. The bill amount and party size you enter never leave your device; there is no endpoint to receive them and no log to read them back from. Disconnecting from the internet after the page loads changes nothing about how it behaves.
Who it is for
- someone weighing up two offers.
- people working towards a savings target.
- readers who check the calculation rather than trust it.
Keeping the lights on
TipLivo costs nothing to use, and the hosting is paid for by advertising. That advertising is kept separate from the calculation: it cannot see what you type and it has no influence on the result.
